Legislative Advocacy & Archery Education

Advocacy and Education - the MSAA's two pronged approach

The MSAA works to further the sport of archery through legislative advocacy and archery education and has a long history of involvement in both.  From our involvement at the legislature, our sponsorship of youth hunts, our coordinating and volunteering with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), to our involvement with youth groups like the Girl and Boy Scouts of America. The MSAA is hard at it for the protection and promotion of archery in the state.

At the legislature

The MSAA stands ready to do the leg work at the state legislature when issues that will have an effect on our hunting and shooting sport rights arise.

The MSAA urges you to speak out and to educate on these important issues by contacting your representatives and reminding them what is important to you. The MSAA also wants to remind you that not only must we defend our rights but we should be inclined to support the needs of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and their mandate as Minnesota's conservator guardian of our natural resources.

The MSAA Conservation Partnership

The MSAA has donated nearly $100,000 to conservation projects for the improvement of Minnesota's wildlife and habitat. The MSAA also has a long tradition of working with the DNR for the welfare of Minnesota's natural resources and the promotion of the sport of archery in the state.

The MSAA has funded:

  • Camp Ripley Wounding Study

  • Metro Bowhunters Resource Base

  • Black bear studies

  • New equipment for the DNR

  • Bowhunter education programs

  • 3D deer instructions models

  • and much more

What can you do?

Support the MSAA by way of MSAA membership.  If you are already an MSAA member consider a leadership position or volunteering on any number of projects that the MSAA is involved in now. If you are not already an MSAA member begin by joining.  Archers that organize are archers that will be heard; archers that sit idly by are archers that will see their opportunities erode because no one is speaking for them.

American Income Life Death Benefit

An MSAA membership includes an American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL) death benefit. AIL provides this free to the MSAA in exchange for MSAA staff mailing to the association's members AIL marketing information. The MSAA puts together this mailing and does not release your contact information to AIL or any other company - it is the policy of the MSAA not to so so. If you prefer not to be contacted by AIL please do not return their contact card once you receive it. Not returning the card will have no effect on qualifying for the benefit, the benefit is only dependant upon current MSAA membership. Use the links below to learn more about this benefit.

Youth hunts

Each year members from the MSAA take a leadership role in the coordination and sponsorship of youth archery hunts at Camp Ripley and at the Arden Hills Army National Guard Training Site (AHATS).  The MSAA partners with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the military, and other outdoor groups to facilitate these hunts.

These hunts are open to the public by way of application to a lottery process.  Applications are made through the Electronic Licensing System (ELS). Keep an eye on the dates at the DNR.

The MSAA funds its youth hunt efforts by selling the official Camp Ripley topology map.  To get your map contact MSAA Bowhunter VP Roger Ekert.
