At the legislature
Governor at Large
Paul May has been doing the
leg work for the MSAA at the state legislature for some time and he is our front
man on issues that will have an effect on our hunting and shooting sport rights.

Paul urges that you not stand still while
your hunting and shooting sport rights are being challenged by other citizen politicians
who mean well but are simply not educated with regard to Minnesota's rich hunting
and shooting sport traditions. Paul urges you to speak out and to educate on these
important issues by contacting your representatives and reminding them what is important
to you.

Paul also wants to remind you that not only
must we defend our rights but we must support fully the needs of the Minnesota Department
of Natural Resources and their mandate as Minnesota's conservator guardian of our
natural resources.
MSAA Lobbyist
While Paul is our watchdog at the legislature
we also pool together with other hunting and sporting groups to support the Fish
and Wildlife Legislative Alliance. The Fish and Wildlife Legislative Alliance is
a lobbying group that works full time at the legislature for our common hunting
and shooting sport interests.
The MSAA Conservation Partnership
The MSAA has donated nearly $100,000 to
conservation projects for the improvement of Minnesota's wildlife and habitat. The
MSAA also has a long tradition of working with the DNR for the welfare of Minnesota's
natural resources and the promotion of the sport of archery in the state.
The MSAA has funded:
-
Camp Ripley Wounding Study
-
Metro Bowhunters Resource Base
-
Black bear studies
-
New equipment for the DNR
-
Bowhunter education programs
-
3D deer instructions models
-
and much more

What can you do?
Support the MSAA and the DNR by way of MSAA
membership. If you are already an MSAA member consider a leadership position
or volunteering on any number of projects that the MSAA is involved in now. If you
are not already an MSAA member begin by joining. Archers that organize are
archers that will be heard; archers that sit idly by are archers that will see their
rights erode because no one is speaking for them.

Youth hunts
Each year members from the MSAA take a leadership
role in the coordination and sponsorship of youth archery hunts at Camp Ripley
and at the Arden Hills Army National Guard Training Site (AHATS).
The MSAA partners with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the
military, and other outdoor groups to facilitate these hunts.

These hunts are open to the public by way
of application to a lottery process. Applications are made through the Electronic Licensing System (ELS). Keep an eye on the dates at the DNR.
The MSAA funds its youth hunt efforts by
selling the official Camp Ripley topology map. To get your map contact MSAA
Bowhunter VP
Roger Ekert.
