Tom Johnson

Tom shot this buck in the Limpopo province of South Africa in 2004 while hunting with Eulalie Hunting Safaris. Tom was in a blind at a watering hole and took the shot while the buck was quartering away. Tom is from Fergus Falls and is a common face at MSAA events and shoots.

In Tom's own words:

I was hunting out of a hide (we call them blinds over here) over a water hole.  The animals are very wary near water this time of year because they have been hunted hard.  The buck came in very cautiously and circled the water.  He came in from my left, crossed in front of me about fifteen yards out.  As he approached the water he presented me with a nice quartering away shot.   My heart was pounding as I wanted to make sure I took my time and placed the shot well.  It was a good shot and the animal went approx. 40 yards.  I saw larger impala on the trip but I was very happy with this one.  I haven't had it measured yet but it is a trophy for me none the less.
